Man killed in Westside shooting

Police questioning people that may have been involved in shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a fight that ended with the death of a man on the Westside, Sunday afternoon.

The homicide unit was sent to Dagail Lane at about 4 p.m. Sunday in reference to a shooting. When investigators arrived, they found a man in his 30s, dead with a gunshot wound.

Police said a group of people were having a cookout. At one point a fight occurred, and one of the men grabbed a handgun, shot and killed the victim.

Lynn Daingerfield said she's a close friend of the man who died, and was devastated when she got the news.

"Ten minutes before it happened, he was just knocking on my front door," said Daingerfield. "He was in and out of the house just like that."

Police said they stopped a car near the scene and believe the driver was connected to the shooting. They're now questioning those people.

For those who know the man who died, they hope the family soon has the answers it needs.

"He's got a beautiful daughter, a beautiful daughter that he's leaving behind," said Daingerfield.

Investigators have not yet released the victim's name.
