Police: Abduction call was hoax by student

A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office helicopter deploys in an abduction search.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police investigating an abduction from Ribault Middle School at midday Tuesday say that's not what it was, as originally reported.

According to investigators, the call was created as a hoax by a 14-year-old middle school student who cut school and did not want her parents to know.

Police said their investigation is ongoing.

Police initially said they were looking for a brown Cadillac with two black men with dreadlocks.

At 1:40 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office sent a notice it was responding to an abduction from the school on Ribault Scenic Drive, asking the media to stage at St. Paul Baptist Church on Winton Street. A public information officer was sent to the scene.

At 2:40 p.m., police said it was not an abduction.
