GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 33-year-old man ran from police Thursday after a traffic stop and then bit the officer who was trying to handcuff him, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

Dwayne "Tree" Robinson, a 15-time convicted felon, is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana.

Robinson was pulled over for a traffic violation on Southeast Hawthorne Road and admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in his vehicle, police said. He was in the process of being detained when he ran on foot and was quickly caught by two officers.

Police said Robinson violently resisted being handcuffed and at one point yelled, "I have AIDS!" as he bit one of the officers on the arm. The bite did not break the officer's skin, and Robinson was eventually handcuffed and secured with help from two other officers.

Police said when the officers returned to the stop, they found Robinson had discarded a loaded Keltec .32-caliber pistol before he ran from the officers.

Robinson and two of the officers, including the one who was bitten, were treated for minor injuries at Shands hospital in Gainesville.
