Police: Man arrested in brothers' killings over drugs

19-year-old, 24-year-old shot to death outside Golden Corral

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 19-year-old Jacksonville man has been arrested on two counts of felony murder and two counts of armed robbery in the killings two brothers Sunday night outside a Golden Corral restaurant on the Westside.

Avery Wood is charged in the shooting deaths.

Jacksonville police said video surveillance at the restaurant showed 19-year-old Matthew Bohannon (pictured below on right) and 24-year-old Andrew Bohannon's (pictured below on left) vehicle driving up and meeting with the suspect vehicle and someone ultimately shooting both victims.

A witness came forward and provided investigators with information that Wood requested that the witness participate in a robbery of his acquaintances, the Bohannon brothers, for drugs.

Other witnesses came forward and told police that Wood made statements that he and other suspects were going to rob the brothers of their drugs.

Police said they found Wood on Tuesday morning and interviewed him. They said he admitted to planning the robbery for drugs and sought out people to help him with the robbery. Police said he admitted he was present during the robbery.

Police said they're currently working the case and more arrests are pending.

"Once again, this case has no correlation to the outcome of the George Zimmerman verdict," the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said in a news release. "These victims knew the suspects and met with the occupants of the vehicle to complete a drug transaction."

The victims' father, Bruce Bohannon, said he's thankful someone is in jail in his sons' killings. He said he refuses to believe his sons were drug dealers, but does know that they had used marijuana in the past.

"The only thing that I know of is that they did do some weed here and there," he said. "Andrew had some stomach issues a lot and it really helped him with that, and that's the only thing that I know of."

According to police, the Bohannons and Wood knew each other, but the brothers' family said they've never seen or heard of Wood before.

The victims' mother, Stephanie Bohannon, said her focus now is helping her family heal. She said she wants to make sure the people responsible stay in jail.

"They should never go free, never," she said. "Because they did it once, they'll do it again. For sure, they can do it, they can do it again and take somebody else's baby from them."

Police said they plan to hold a news conference on the case Wednesday morning.
