GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday and charged with grand theft after police say he stole an i-Pad from inside the Gainesville Police Department.

William Rossignol is accused of taking an i-Pad from inside the Hall of Heroes in the Gainesville Police Department building. The i-Pad was left there by a Citizen's Academy participant during a K-9 and motorcycle demonstration.

Rossignol and a woman were at the desk at the same time for an unrelated matter, and Rossignol was seen on surveillance video letting himself into the Hall of Heroes, where police say he took the i-Pad and then left GPD.

Rossignol was identified on the video as the suspect, and when he came back to the GPD lobby, the woman he had been with told him police were looking for him.

He left again and was stopped in his vehicle at the parking lot exit, police said.

Police said Rossignol admitted to the theft and took officers to where he had stashed the i-Pad under a paver stone. The i-Pad was returned to its owner and Rossignol was booked into the Alachua County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
