A Palm Coast man was arrested and charged with culpable negligence and discharging a firearm in public following an incident that occurred at a home on Reidsville Drive about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Deputies responded to the home, where they found 44-year-old Jamie Goodell lying on the kitchen floor with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Deputies said they found a witness who told them that Goodell and the suspect had been in the garage of the home drinking when the conversation turned to what each would do in the event they were to be attacked.
The witness told deputies that the suspect, identified as Edward Towers, 57, pulled a handgun from a holster on his belt, put the gun up to Goodell's stomach and pulled the trigger. According to the witness, Towers did not believe that he had shot Goodell, at which time he discharged the weapon a second time into the ground.
Goodell was transported to Halifax Hospital following the incident and underwent surgery. He was reported to be in stable condition going into surgery.
Towers was taken into custody and further questioned by investigators. Following Towers' arrest, he was transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility. He has since been released on $1,500 bond on the two charges.
