Police: No foul play suspected in sailor's death

Lonzie Barton searchers find remains of missing sailor in woods near mall

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police do not suspect foul play in the death of a Navy chief who had been missing two years before his body was found in July during the search for Lonzie Barton.

The death of Navy Chief Kevin Williams was ruled undetermined by the Medical Examiner's Office, but police said no foul play is suspected.

Williams, 39, was last seen two years ago at the Avenues Mall just before he was reported missing. Williams' body was discovered July 27, when the search for Lonzie led investigators to a wooded area near the mall.

The Navy had declared Williams AWOL.

Williams' wife, Vanessa Williams, said she never believed her husband would abandon his family. The last time she saw Kevin was in June 2013 at the Avenues Mall. She walked inside, leaving him outside. He never came home.
