Police search for man using counterfeit money

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Sheriff's deputies in St. Johns County are on the lookout for a man that they said is wanted for using numerous counterfeit $50 bills at a Walmart on U.S. 1 Sunday afternoon.

Loss prevention officers at the store called police and said that a tall, heavy set black man wearing a white, short sleeved, button down shirt with a white hat and dark sunglasses came into the store and bought $750 worth of goods using the fake bills.

Officials said the man handed the clerk 15 counterfeit $50 bills and left the store before loss prevention officers were aware of what happened.

Deputies are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Hank Miller at the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-209-3999.

People with information can also remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward by contacting Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-TIPS.
