JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A robbery suspect was shot and killed by an officer Sunday night on the Northside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda said the man robbed Trout River Foods on Lem Turner at Broward roads around 8:30 p.m.

Bujeda said officers spotted the man walking on Broward and when they turned in front of him, he started running. When Officer M.W. Crawford ordered the man to surrender, he tried to jump a fence.

Bujeda said the man had a gun in his hand. When Crawford told the man to drop the gun, he didn't. That's when Crawford shot and killed the suspect.

The man's name was not released.

Officer Crawford was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting.
