JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police in Jacksonville are trying to identify a man who stole a car left running at an Arlington gas station earlier this month.

Police said the victim parked his car on the side of a BP store at 3551 N. University Blvd. about 9:50 p.m. March 2. He got out of the car and went into the store with the keys still in the ignition and the car running and unlocked, police said.

Surveillance video showed a car pull up next to the victim's car. It appeared to be an early 2000 model black Ford Taurus, police said.

They said a black man wearing a white tank top and khaki pants got out of the black car and into the victim's car and drove away. Police said the suspect car followed the victim's car.

Police released a surveillance photo of the thief and suspect vehicle. They said the victim's vehicle has since been recovered.

Anyone who has any information about the thief's identity is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
