Ray explores run for Crenshaw congressional seat

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – State Rep. Lake Ray, R-Jacksonville, said Monday he is opening a committee to "explore" running for a Northeast Florida congressional seat that became available last week when longtime U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla., announced he will not seek another term.

Ray posted several tweets Monday that listed accomplishments during his time in the Legislature and on the Jacksonville City Council.

"This congressional race will be about experience,'' Ray said in one of the posts. "We can't afford to have someone learn on the job."

Ray, who was elected to the House in 2008, cannot run again for the Legislature because of term limits.

Crenshaw's surprise announcement that he will not seek re-election touched off speculation about who would seek to replace him in Congressional District 4.

Former Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford plans to run in the Republican stronghold.
