PORT ORANGE, Fla. – The Port Orange Golden Corral restaurant that is under fire after a video showing food being stored next to a Dumpster was posted to YouTube was inspected Tuesday morning and had few violations.
A spokeswoman from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation called the inspection "satisfactory." The report noted 10 violations and six were corrected immediately during the inspection.
The report didn't turn up any signs of violations as significant as what was captured on video by employee Brandon Huber, according to the official.
A Golden Corral manager was fired Monday after Brandon Huber posted the video to YouTube during an apparent inspection.
In the video, Huber says the restaurant was undergoing an inspection as he walked to the Dumpster area.
"Apparently, what my company likes to do to get ready for inspections is put their food by the Dumpsters," he says.
The video, titled "all you can eat ribs" and posted to YouTube on July 1, then shows uncooked hamburger patties, ribs and other foods in the Dumpster area. Flies can be seen hovering over the hamburger meat.
Golden Corral released a statement, claiming Huber's father tried to blackmail the restaurant with the video.
"None of these items were served to a single customer. All were destroyed within the hour at the direction of management. Brandon Huber, the employee who made the video, participated in the disposal of the food. The following day, the father of the employee posted an offer to sell the video for $5,000, which was not accepted. The manager involved in the improper storage was terminated for failing to follow approved food-handling procedures," Golden Corral said in the statement.
