President draws criticism over "Latte Salute"

Salute made with coffee cup in hand

NEW YORK – President Barack Obama is no stranger to criticism, but today, the controversy is all about a cup of coffee. Some people are criticizing him for holding a cup of coffee while saluting two Marines when he stepped off Marine One in New York City.

The White House Instagram account posted this video Tuesday.  It's been deemed the "latte salute" on Twitter. People on the social media site say it was disrespectful and he should have put down the cup as he walked out.

He's not the first president to make an awkward salute with his hands full. President Bush saluted while holding his dog Barney back in 2006. Some are defending the president - saying he was just caught off guard - and it was just an awkward moment.
