?While our staff will face the inconvenience of a longer distance to the present Courthouse for the next six months, we are pleased to relieve City of Jacksonville taxpayers of the nearly $70,000 they pay each month to the private entity that owns our current office building,? Shirk said. ?It was a decision of our administration that we would aggressively work to save those public funds by relocating our office to 407 N. Laura Street as far in advance of the Courthouse move as possible.?

Though it is a state agency, Public Defender Offices in Florida per state statute, receive County funding for office space and other operations costs.
