Public hearing will discuss State Road 9B hearing

Extension construction estimated at $117 million

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The extension of State Road 9B, a new four-lane interstate currently under construction in southern Duval County, is the subject of a public hearing scheduled for Monday.

Florida Department of Transportation will host the meeting at the Courtyard by Marriott at 14402 Old St. Augustine Road in Jacksonville.

Officials will discuss the extension of State Road 9B from Interstate 95 in Duval County to County Road 2209 in St. Johns County.

An informal open house is planned from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by public comments at 6:30 p.m.

Construction of the proposed extension, estimated at $117 million, is tentatively scheduled to begin in late 2015.

State Road 9B, which eventually will become Interstate 795, opened last September between the I-295 East Beltway and U.S. 1.

The second phase from U.S. 1 to I-95 is currently under construction and anticipated to open in summer 2016.
