PALATKA, Fla. – A 57-year-old from Pomona Park man was arrested Wednesday night after he was accused of tackling, punching and strangling his girlfriend, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

William Donald Haney was charged with one count of felony domestic violence by strangulation.

He was arrested after an investigation determined that Haney and his live-in girlfriend began arguing. When Haney's girlfriend attempted to walk away to end the argument, Haney reportedly chased her into their driveway, knocked her to the ground and forcefully held her face into the ground. He then reportedly choked her and punched her with his fist.

The girlfriend told deputies that Haney released her and she got up and ran to a neighbor's house for safety, but Haney once again pursued her, caught her, punched her again and choked her until she could not breathe. She escaped a second time and ran into the neighbor's house where she then called the Sheriff's Office.

Two responding deputies found Haney hiding underneath a truck nearby. He was transported to the Putnam County Jail, where he was ordered held without bond.
