Putnam responders get 2 boats for emergencies

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – The Putnam County Sheriff's Office purchased a new boat and donated a previously used boat to the Palatka Fire Department to help the county respond to an increasing number of emergencies.

The vessel the fire department now operates was seized from a local drug dealer.

The Palatka Fire Department said the vessel will help because there is also steadily growing tourism in the area, including large fishing tournaments and Eco-tours.

"With a fire-rescue vessel stationed at the Palatka Fire Department and a Sheriff's vessel permanently stationed in Palatka and Satsuma, we are better equipped to mount a quick response to river emergencies no matter the location," said the Palatka Fire Department.
