JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Duval County's third rabies alert of the year has been issued for the Charter Point area. The alert is in effect through Jan. 12.
The rabies alert area is bordered on the south by University Boulevard at Jack Road, and on the north, west and east by the St. Johns River.
The alert follows the discovery of a rabid cat in the Charter Point area, according to the Duval County Health Department.
Health officials said there was human exposure involved in this alert. As a precaution, pet owners should confine their animals and be certain that each has received current rabies immunization shots from a licensed veterinarian.
Stray animals should be reported to the city of Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services at 904-630-2489.
