In what has become an annual debate, a South Florida senator filed a proposal Thursday that would repeal the state's red-light camera law.
Sen. Frank Artiles, R-Miami, filed the proposal (SB 178) for consideration during the 2017 legislative session, which starts in March.

Artiles, who was elected to the Senate last month after serving in the House, has been a longtime critic of the use of cameras to crack down on motorists who drive through red lights.
But past attempts to repeal the red-light camera law have failed.
Supporters of red-light cameras contend they help improve traffic safety, but critics argue the devices are used to generate revenue for local governments.
