Reports of smoke, fire at Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island

Guests evacuated early Thursday morning

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. – Nassau County Fire Rescue is investigating reports of a possible fire at the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island.

Around 6 a.m. Thursday morning, an alarm went off, alerting guests to evacuate the hotel due to possible smoke and fire on the 8th floor.

There is no visible smoke or fire. Firefighters are still working to identify a possible source.

The hotel is currently half-full, but no word on how many guests were actually forced to evacuate.

Many guests were still sleeping when the alarm went off and were forced to evacuate in pajamas, including Channel 4 anchor Bruce Hamilton. The hotel is trying to keep them warm with robes and hot coffee.
