Research group tweets picture of great white shark swimming off Flagler Beach

Shark named Katharine tracked near Florida coastline

FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. – A 2,300-pound great white shark being tracked by a research team has moved closer to shore, near the Volusia and Flagler county coastline.

Scientists with Ocearch attached a tracking device to the 14-foot shark named Katharine. She was originally caught near Cape Cod and has since swam nearly 2,000 miles to Central Florida.

The location of the shark is determined by a ping based on when the shark breaks the water's surface.

Ocearch recently tweeted a picture of the shark taken from an expedition group.
