JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla – The Jacksonville Beach Dairy Queen is a popular spot at the beach. Last week during a surprise check an inspector found a first at the restaurant, a roach.
According to the report a large roach crawled from behind the freezer and went under the restaurant equipment. The inspector also noted that roach excrement was present in a hole in the wall with the ice cream hoses.

We talked with the owner of the Jacksonville Beach Dairy Queen who faxed us a receipt from his pest control company that explained they didn't find any excrement. Owner Bill Smolios said he believes the debris was crumbs from waffles that they make fresh daily.
Smolios also sent us this statement saying: "We had a delivery that day of the evaluation and it appears that there may have been a palmetto bug that came in during that delivery. There was only one bug present."
He says their pest control company comes out monthly that makes sure they don't have any pest problems.
Smolios added: "The health and safety of our fans is the number one focus of our daily systems and routines. We also pay for the expertise of outside agencies to help us in maintaining a safe and clean environment."
The inspector did come back the next day and found zero violations. This Dairy Queen's previous inspections received scored in the 90s. This is the first one that needed a follow up.
