Japanese restaurant cited; hot dog stand closed

Restaurant Report Card

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kabuto Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar on Atlantic Boulevard had a rough inspection last week.  We went to see what they've changed since an inspector found dozens of critical violations.

I asked a worker if he could talk about the inspection.  An employee named Jeff told me he didn't have time to talk even though the restaurant was closed that evening for cleaning. He was aware of the latest inspection though.

"I heard, but it was unexpected because we clean the kitchen like two to three times a week," said Jeff.

Most of the problems weren't about cleanliness but an inspector did find 24 critical violations and nine non-critical.

The inspector found raw chicken and pork stored over frozen vegetables, slime inside the ice machine, dead roaches by the ice machine and bottles of water stored in ice used for drinks.

Jeff said they get pest control at least once of month.

"Sometimes we make mistakes nobody is perfect she would say no body is perfect we clean as much as we can everyday we clean clean clean,"  said Jeff.

Also last week, Steamers Hot Dogs, a mobile hot dog stand on Monument Road, was shut down for the night last week because they didn't have running water or a current license. The inspector noted they were using hand sanitizer only.

Steamers was allowed to open the next day when they got the water fixed.
