3 restaurants closed for day due to roaches

Restaurant Report Card

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Three restaurants are shut down because inspectors found roaches in the kitchen.  It took inspectors several follow-ups to open all of them back up because the roaches were still there.

Lemongrass Restaurant on Old Baymeadows Road is first on the report.  It was closed for the night two years ago because of roaches and just last week it was temporarily closed again.  The inspector wrote that ten live roaches were found in the motor area of the freezer near the cooking. There was also roach excrement in the same area.

The next day the inspector came back several times noting on one occasion that a pest control company was on site.  Eventually that afternoon the roaches were gone but the excrement was still there. Lemongrass was allowed to reopen but they'll need another check soon.

Danny's Place on West Forsyth Street was cited with two high priority violations.  The inspector found 30 live roaches in a Clorox box near the sink and make table in the kitchen.  When the box opened roaches scattered under the table and on the floor, according to the report. The inspector wrote the employees killed and sprayed as many as possible. The next day the inspector still found three roaches. Danny's Place had to remain closed until later that day when they came back and the roaches were gone.

Hooks Fish and Chicken on Myrtle Avenue was shut down for two nights because of roaches.  During the initial check the inspector found 17 live roaches on a wall above the water heater.  He wrote it was a repeat violation. The next day there were fewer roaches but still about a dozen in the same area.  That same day the inspector came back and still found roaches which the manager killed and discarded.  During a fourth visit the roaches were gone and Hooks Fish and Chicken was allowed to open back up.
