Unlicensed activity, roaches, broken coolers shut down 3 restaurants

Restaurant Report Card

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Three restaurants were closed last week for very different reasons.   One for running without a license, a second because of roaches, and the last for not being able to keep cold food, cold.

New World Restaurant is by Cecil Field on Lake Newman Street.  It was inspected last week and forced to stop serving food because of unlicensed activity.  They were doing construction at the time and weren't open but the inspector wanted to make sure they stayed that way. The inspector noted that the manager said plans have been drawn up but not yet submitted to add a buffet line, a new room to prepare food and they were given more time to comply.  New World Restaurant is still not open.

Napolis Pizza Cuisine on Arlington Road was temporarily shut down because of roaches.  It was closed on Tuesday and took two days to open back up.  The inspector found live roaches on rails with clean utensils hanging, too many roaches to count by the baseboard behind the preparation table, and more in other places. They also found roach droppings. The next day the inspector came back and still found roaches. On day three the inspector found one live roach but still couldn't open Napolis back up because it has to be roach free.  Later that afternoon the inspector came back and was able to open the restaurant with no signs of bugs.

Jaxmint on Baymeadows Road was shut down for the night because all three coolers in the building couldn't keep food at a safe temperature. The manager stated that one cooler builds up ice during the day and they have to turn it off every few hours to melt the ice.  They had to throw out all the food in the walk in cooler because it was holding food 5 to 9 degrees too warm to be considered safe.

The restaurant was able to reopen the next day  This time they had zero violations.
