TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

May want to stay out of the water this weekend as state officials say there’s an elevated risk of rip currents along Florida’s Atlantic coast.

The moderate to high risk of rip currents from Nassau County south to Miami are expected to last through Sunday, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Director Bryan Koon says persistent onshore winds and high waves are contributing to the rip currents. Beachgoers should be aware that red flags on beaches indicate dangerous swimming conditions.

There had no reports of rip current rescues as of Saturday afternoon.
