A man was hit with a weapon and shot after finding two burglars at his Southside home Tuesday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said the homeowner returned from work to find the two men in his home on Weymouth Circle at about 8 p.m. They said the men broke into the home from the rear window.

The homeowner was confronted by the burglars who demanded money and hit him with a weapon. He ran and jumped out of a window in his home, during which the burglars shot at him, striking him in the arm.

Bradley Young, a neighbor and friend of the man shot, said he was playing video games when he heard shots being fired.

"I hear two loud gunshots and I go to the window to see what's going on. Right as I go to step away, I hear someone saying 'help.'" Young said.

What he heard was his friend being robbed at gunpoint by the two masked men.

"The important thing is that he lived," Young said. "Whoever those people are, if you're out there, you're some weak (expletive) people."

Police described the homeowner's injuries as non life-threatening. No other family members were home at the time.

Investigators said the burglars got away with the homeowner's rental car, which is a yellow 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. Police found the vehicle abandoned later that night just after 9:00 p.m. on Acme Street. Officers found blood inside and outside the vehicle.

Investigators said the burglars were both men wearing masks and dark clothing. They are looking at nearby security cameras to try and get a better description.
