The school has been trying to get the 67-year-old former Massachusetts governor to speak since at least last summer.

"We have a history here at JU of inviting extraordinary public policy leaders -- for our students I think we benefit enormously," said Rick Mullaney, director of JU's Public Policy Institute.

JU President Tim Cost said Romney's appearance will help bring "world-class talent" before the university's students and the community.

Romney will receive an honorary degree during the April 25 ceremony.
