FHP: 2 students, 1 adult suffer minor injuries after car hits bus

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two students and one adult suffered minor injuries Thursday when a car hit a school bus carrying 33 middle school students on Blanding Boulevard.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, 34-year-old Joseph Dicks of Jacksonville was driving southbound on Blanding Boulevard about 4:15 p.m. and entered the left turn lane to turn onto Merrimac Avenue. A bus, driven by 41-year-old Katonia Murray, was traveling northbound on Blanding Boulevard, carrying students from Lake Shore Middle School.

According to the report, Dicks began to make the turn and his Ford Fusion struck the left front of the school bus, which then hit the curb.

Two 12-year-old girls who were riding the bus were transported to Baptist Medical Center with minor injuries to their side and knee. Dicks was also taken to Baptist with minor injuries to his face and stomach area.

Dicks was charges with careless driving and not wearing his seatbelt.
