Scobee, Walmart team up to defeat hunger
Scobee kicks off food drive benefiting Second Harvest North Florida
Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee is teaming up with Walmart to defeat hunger by kicking off a month-long food drive benefiting Second Harvest North Florida.
Scobee will make an appearance at a local Walmart on Thursday to meet and greet with fans and help launch the company’s new Defeat Hunger Bowl food drive.
Defeat Hunger Bowl donation barrels will be placed in 55 Walmart stores throughout north Florida from January 8th through February 9th, with 24 of those locations spanning the First Coast.
All of the nonperishable food donated will be shared among Feeding America food banks, including Second Harvest locally.
“Throughout my time in Jacksonville, I have seen people here step up time and time again to help those in need,” Scobee said. “Hunger is a serious issue that affects thousands of people right here in north Florida. I hope all the great people of Jacksonville and beyond will support this program and help me defeat hunger.”
Scobee will join Second Harvest Executive Director Bruce Ganger as well as Walmart Regional General Manager Lee DeVille in launching the initiative.
The event takes place at Walmart at 13940 Beach Boulevard from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Through the initiative community leaders want to raise awareness of the hunger problem in north Florida and encourage the community to join Second Harvest as part of the solution.
Pre?packaged $5 donation bags will be available for purchase at all participating locations.
