Seminole County firefighters rescue dog from sinkhole

GENEVA, Fla. – Seminole County firefighters rescued a dog from what appeared to be a sinkhole.

Fire Rescue officials said the dog, named Sanford, was found 75 percent trapped in a sinkhole in the 1400 block of Chippewa Lane on December 29.

Sanford was lethargic and in distress and firefighters used shovels to dig the dog out, according to officials.

The crew administered oxygen and took the dog to the owner's vehicle. Sanford was transported to Geneva Animal Hospital for aggressive treatment.

Sanford is recovering at home and is doing well, fire officials said.

Fire officials posted on the SCFR Facebook page that Lt. D. McBryde, FF/P G. Siracusa, FF M. Johnson, FF/P K. Schneider, FF J. Allen, and FF R. Kay were involved in the rescue and praised them for a job well done.
