Sergeant charged with enticing minor for sex

Investigators: Staff Sergeant Thomas Vaughn was really talking to undercover officer

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – An Air Force Staff Sergeant in Brevard County was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with enticement of a minor for sex.

The United States Attorney's Office said Thomas Allen Vaughn, 33, of Patrick Air Force Base, communicated by email and text message with an individual he believed was a 14-year-old girl. She was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.

During the communications, Vaughn solicited "naughty" pictures from the child and informed her that his hobbies included kissing, foreplay and sex, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Investigators said he told the child about his private parts and made plans to meet her at an agreed location, where he was arrested.

A criminal complaint is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
