Sex offender accused of unnatural act at yoga studio arrested

42-year-old arrested in Ohio

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A sex offender accused of performing an unnatural and lascivious act at a San Marco yoga facility last week has been arrested in Ohio.

The warrant issued by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for Joseph Jordan does not apply to Ohio. Jordan was living in Ohio before he started showing up around town in Jacksonville. It is uncertain if it was legal for the registered sex offender to leave Ohio without telling police in Florida that he was relocating.

Pearl Peek works at the yoga studio and said she hopes the man gets help.

"The man is asking for help," Peek said. "He gave his name, his address. He kind of waited around for police. He needs help."

Police said Jordan, 42, had also been spotted on the University of North Florida's campus last week.

The owner of the yoga studio told police she removed Jordan from the class before any students really noticed what was happening.

A campus-wide alert had also been issued at UNF.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office learned Jordan had been arrested through a detective who tracks sex offenders. Police said he will not be brought back to Jacksonville, because their warrant only applies to the state of Florida.

"This guy, we all know what he did. It's unfortunate. It's good that he is off the street," said JSO Public Information Officer Christian Hancock. "Obviously, if comes back, I would love to arrest him on the warrant that we have for him. But people can rest a little easier. This young man is off the streets."
