Sex offender indicted on charge of failing to register

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 40-year-old Jacksonville has been indicted on a charge of failing to register as sex offender.

If convicted, Nicodemus Jefferson faces up to 10 years in federal prison. Jefferson has been in custody since his arrest on Sept. 30.

According to the indictment, on Dec. 17, 1998, Jefferson was convicted of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in Charleston County, South Carolina.

Between March 17 and Sept. 30 this year, Jefferson moved from Maryland to Florida. He failed to register in Florida as a sex offender as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, according to the indictment.
