Shelter: Help foster dogs until adoption event

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville's Animal Care and Protective Services is looking for help from the community.

On Thursday, the shelter ran out of kennel space for dogs. Caretakers had to double-up dogs in their cages. Unfortunately, the next Mega Adoption event is more than 30 days away.

The shelter is looking for people to foster a dog until the Dec. 19-21 Mega Adoption Event. The shelter will supply all of the dog's food and medical care, as well as find the dog a permanent home at the adoption event.

The shelter said the community has responded well in the past when it's needed fostering help.

Betty, 7, has been at Animal Care and Protective Services since Sept. 19. She was rescued by the shelter and her leg had to be amputated by the veterinary staff. But she has done very well since the surgery and is ready for a home to call her own.

There are plenty of dogs available, including 7-year-old Betty (pictured), who has been at the shelter since Sept. 19. She was rescued by the shelter and her leg had to be amputated by the veterinary staff. But she has done very well since the surgery and is ready for a home to call her own.

Anyone interested in volunteering to foster a dog can do so from Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2020 Forest Street.

The staff and volunteers will help find a great match for every home.
