Sheriff: Escaped murder convicts in Orlando area

Police continue to search for Joseph Jenkins, Charles Walker

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings says he believes both convicted killers who escaped from a Florida prison are in the Orange County area, and he pleaded for the public's help in finding them.

Joseph Jenkins and Charles Walker were both released from the Franklin Correctional Institution in the Florida Panhandle days apart using documents from the Orange County Clerk's office with forged signatures.

"We have some other covert means that we have been utilizing in the last few days," Demings told WKMG-TV. "We still believe that they are here. We want to certainly take them into custody before they are able to get out of the area. They can't get out of the area if we have active participation from our citizens."

WKMG has also learned the pair returned to the jail they used to be housed at in Orange County and registered as "felons."

Orange County Jail spokesman Alan Moore said that Walker registered as felons three days after they were freed -- each on separate days. They were photographed, screened for any outstanding warrants or red flags and they passed.

Demings released the new pictures and announced the reward for finding the suspects has climbed to $5,000.  Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call Central Florida Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
