JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 21-year-old is in custody after police say he shot a man in the chest during an attempted robbery on the Northside early Wednesday morning, then led officers on a high-speed chase through Northwest Jacksonville before crashing into a home, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Just before 2 a.m. officers were dispatched to East Ken Knight Drive and West Moncrief Road in reference to a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim told told officers that the suspect attempted to rob him and shot him.

The victim, who police have not named, was transported to UF Health with non-life-threatening injuries.
"Responding officers also observed a vehicle fleeing the area when they arrived. Officers attempted to stop that vehicle and it fled," said Sgt. J. C. Wilson.
Officers said they pursued the Toyota on Cleveland Road and Edgewood Avenue at speeds up to 90 mph. After it crashed into the porch of a home on West 30th Street, the driver -- identified as Timothy McGhee -- was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with injures. Police said he is facing charges of fleeing a law enforcement officer and reckless driving.
McGhee's booking photo was not released as he was expected to be shown in a lineup to the robbery victim. McGhee will likely face additional charges.
Wilson said the robbery occurred on the street and officers are unsure why the victim was outside at the time.
Officers said there was no indication that this incident and a shooting Tuesday night on Moncrief Road were related.
