Sign pointing to old courthouse still up
It's been about a year and half since the new Duval County Courthouse opened. So why is there still a sign on the Main Street Bridge pointing drivers to the old courthouse.
The road sign has an arrow directing drivers to the right for Newnan Street and the county courthouse.
The new courthouse, however, is the opposite direction.
The chief judge in Duval County and others said they have been working to get all the kinks out regarding the new courthouse, but this one is not in their hands.
"It is somewhat of a surprise," Duval County court administrator Joe Stelma said of the sign still being up. "We talked about a year ago of doing something about it, and I think it's up to the state to cover it."
Ultimately, the Florida Department of Transportation is responsible for the signs on the Main Street Bridge.
FDOT spokesman Mike Goldman said the department was not aware of the problem until Channel 4 pointed it out.
"It is something if it's incorrect information we definitely want to correct it," Goldman said. "We don't want people to be lost, particularly there where you have several different directions. So we are going to look at it."
There is a contract with a sign maker, and FDOT hopes to have the correct information in place soon.
