3 3 3 3 3 At ten o'clock we told you the story of Clay Petruski. He's back home tonight recovering after he was bitten by a deadly rattlesnake. Now that it's getting warmer outside, experts say snakes tend to become more active. And with an increased threat...there are things YOU and your family need to be aware of to stay safe. Channel 4's Ashley Harding joins us now live to explain ... Two weeks ago, Clay Petruski was using a stick to prod the snake away when he was bitten on the hand. 12:52--12:58 "To survive a bite like that.. he was very lucky." 09:27-- "With a bite from a diamondback, you're going to have hemorrhaging, swelling, tissue destruction at the site." TRACK Brian Eisele with the Jacksonville Zoo says snakes tend to become more active as weather heats up. He says there are FOUR additional venomous snakes in Duval County. 11:44--11:52 "The pygmy rattlesnake, the canebrake rattlesnake, ams of course the water moccasin or cottonmouth. And the coral snake." TRACK Eisele says if you are bitten, the first thing to do is calm down. 13:53--14:03 "Get the jewelry off because you could have intense swelling at the bite site. Get jewelry off and get clothing off that is constricting. Get that at or below heart level and just get to the hospital." TRACK Eisele also says one thing you DON'T want to do is suck the poison out.13:34--13:47 "I wouldn't recommend doing that. That would be like trying to suck something injected with a hypodermic needle into your arm and trying to remove it that way. It's very, very little chance of actually removing any of that." . TRACK Eisele says above all, just know that if you play in their domain, you play by their rules.14:46--14:54 "Just don't get bitten at all. That's the thing that we recommend here. And we use extreme caution when handling them." 3 Live tag: You can see I'm taking a picture of what you guys, that's another Brian Eisele said some people do...they get too close to the snake, thinking they can take a picture.Again, stay away from the snake as much as possible.
