Crews said they saw smoke and flames showing from the exterior of the evacuated home when they arrived.

They were able to contain the fire.

But because of the heat and the length of time it took to get the fire under control, St. Johns County Fire Rescue sent additional crews to rotate into the fire fight. One fireman was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

The road was blocked while firefighters were on scene.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
