Space Jam 2 is in the making!

The film is expected to feature Lebron James

(CNN Philippines) – A sequel to Space Jam is in the works, and National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar LeBron James is leading it.

According to a report on Monday (Tuesday, May 3 PHT) on The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Lin is co-writing and in talks to direct Space Jam 2.

Lin is the director responsible for four Fast and Furious films and the upcoming Star Trek Beyond.

The original Space Jam, released in 1996, had Hall of Fame player Michael Jordan joining forces with Bugs Bunny and other cartoon characters to take on space aliens in a basketball game.

The film earned as much as $230 million against a budget of $80 million to become the most profitable basketball movie ever.

James has already a bit of acting experience after playing himself in the 2015 film Trainwreck. In 2015, he signed a deal with Warner Brother.

There is no word yet on the sequel's plot or potential release date.
