Mother, 3 kids lose Eastside home to fire

Red Cross assisting family after fire starts in back of house

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – A home on the Eastside caught fire just after midnight Thursday, displacing a mother and her three children.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department says the fire started around 12:28 a.m. at 1228 Winthrop Street. The flames were in the back of the home.

The Red Cross is helping the family with food, transportation and lodging.

JFRD was not able to confirm if any injuries were involved or if anyone was in the home at the time of the fire.

The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate the fire's cause.
