Three vehicles were stopped by a construction flagman westbound on S.R. 230. According to FHP, 40-year-old Atremus Eady failed to notice the vehicles had stopped.
FHP said Eady's 2004 Mack semi-truck had struck the back of 64-year-old James Hunt, Jr.'s Jetta, with 52-year-old Tony Tripp riding as a passenger of the Jetta.
The collision had started a chain-reaction-type collision with the other two vehicles involved in the crash. FHP said the third vehicle, a 2003 Ford Ranger, had overturned as a result of the chain-reaction collisions.
All vehicles came to a rest on the north shoulder of S.R. 230.
According to FHP, Hunt, Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Eady's semi-truck partially blocked the westbound lane of S.R. 230.
Woodrow Kitler, the 64-year-old driver of the Ranger, and 61-year-old passenger Margaret Kitler were taken to Shands Starke.
S.R. 230 was closed for about four hours as a result of the crash. FHP says charges are pending.
