St. Augustine lights up for the holidays

Annual Nights of Lights celebration begins

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Sparkly, shiny, shimmery and spectacular. Anyone taking a drive through downtown St. Augustine will see it for themselves.

Downtown St. Augustine is lit up with more than three million lights for the city's annual Nights of Lights celebration.

The display is wide ranging – from the Old Market to the Lightner Museum and even the Bridge of Lions. Thousands of people are checking it out.

"We drove over the bridge coming on A1A and you see all these lights lit up and it's magical," David Kane, a visitor, said. "It's phenomenal."

Brittany Dorsey loves it so much, she's having her wedding here next week.

"The pictures after the ceremony, I want to get all the pictures with the lights downtown," said Dorsey. "It's my childhood; I grew up here. It's sentimental and will be fun to look back on when I'm older."

Dorsey came down with her husband to be, uncle and daughter. She says looking at the lights has become a family tradition.

"I see them working on it in October. I live locally. They put a lot of effort into it and it's nice to see what it looks like when it's all done," said Dorsey.

The streets were lit up too - with headlights, showing just how many people came out for the event. David Kane says it's a good way to get the community together.

It's bringing a lot of business, said Kane. "I love it. It's a great feeling, great vibes. I just love it."

The lights will remain up until the end of January.
