St. Augustine offers shredding, e-waste collection

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The City of St. Augustine's Solid Waste and Sanitation Division has designated Saturday as a day to get rid of some hard-to-get-rid of items and do so in a way that is environmentally safe.

The city is offering two recycling collection services -- document shredding and e-waste collection -- on Saturday at R. B. Hunt Elementary School, 125 Magnolia Dr., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In a time when being cautious is called for when disposing of personal documents, the city will offer a safe and easy way to get rid of all that paper by shredding it. The shredding service allows residents to drop off up to five file boxes of documents for on-site, secure destruction and then recycling.

The e-waste collection is a service that is growing in popularity as an increasing amount of electronic equipment and devices become obsolete and are replaced. Saturday's collection is a way to easily and safely dispose of computers, printers, fax machines, cellphones, rechargers, power supply units, cameras, stereos, radios, small appliances, remote controls, batteries of all types and sizes and even Christmas lights.

In addition to the special recycling services day on Saturday, all of these materials are accepted at the Solid Waste and Sanitation Division facility at 601 Riberia St. by contacting Olivia Smith, recycling coordinator, at 904-825-1049 to schedule a time for drop-off.
