ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. – A 53-year-old St. Augustine Beach man who fired multiple shots at deputies a week ago has died at a Jacksonville hospital, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Cary Lloyd Martin of Florida Avenue died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives with the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the shooting incident, which happened last Thursday in St. Augustine Beach.
Deputies said the investigation has revealed that Martin fired at least eight rounds toward deputies and officers during the initial confrontation at his residence.
When fired upon, two St. Johns County deputies returned fire, striking Martin several times. Those deputies, Sgt. Earl Edenfield III, 39, and 28-year-old Deputy Joshua Butler, are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Martin was flown to UF Health Jacksonville and remained in critical condition until he died this week, deputies said.
Police originally responded to Martin's residence shortly before 7:30 p.m. last Thursday because of reports that a despondent individual was making suicidal threats.
Once on scene, St. Augustine Beach police officers contacted Martin by phone. Police said on several occasions, Martin indicated he was going to leave the house to speak with officers.
Police said as Martin approached the front door about 9 p.m., officers saw he was armed with a rifle, and he fired multiple rounds from the M1 style rifle.
