St. Johns River Ferry closed for a week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The St. Johns River Ferry will be closed from Monday through Sunday for repairs to the vessel and the walls of the slip.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority said some infrastructure repairs are partially completed and the ferry has to be removed from service for a week in order to complete vessel improvements and the remaining Ft. George slip wall repairs.

The JTA assumed ownership and operations of the ferry on March 31, 2016. In the first month of ownership, landscaping and renovations were completed at the Mayport and Ft. George landings. The MyJTA mobile ticketing application was also integrated so ferry customers can purchase tickets with their smartphone.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this causes for residents, travelers and tourists,” JTA Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. said. “Closing service for one week allows us to safely complete these essential repairs in a timely manner.”

The St. Johns River Ferry is a car and passenger ferry that connects the north and south ends of Florida State Road A1A with daily service between Mayport Village and Ft. George Island across the St. Johns River.
