ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -

Police officers fatally shot a man early Monday that they say pulled a gun on them.

St. Petersburg police officials say 23-year-old Ronald Sexton had gone to a neighbor's home with a pit bull dog and was yelling at the neighbor's pit bull, which was inside a fenced yard.

When the neighbor told Sexton to stop, police say Sexton pulled a handgun from his pants. The neighbor called 911.

Police say that when three officers arrived, they told Sexton to get on the ground. They say he began to comply but then pulled his gun and pointed it at one of the officers. They fired, killing him.

The names of the officers have not been released. Under standard procedures, they were placed on paid leave while the shooting is investigated.
