The summer boating season is underway, and many people are expecting to be out on the water, enjoying the surf and sand.
So officials want to remind people to stay safe by remembering to wear a life jacket.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Division Public Affairs Officer Mark McKinnon said that most drowning victims do not have on a life vest when they are found.
“So what that tells us is your chances greatly increase survival if you are at a boating incident or simply get tired or have another problem with you are swimming, that life jacket can save your life,” McKinnon said.
This year, GDNR data shows it’s had the most boating drownings, year-to-date, in the last three years.
