Stein Mart reports sales growth

Retail chain sees gains in December

Jacksonville, Fla. – Stein Mart is reporting a 7.9 percent sales increase in the five-week period ending on January 3, 2015, according to a Jacksonville Business Journal report.

Sales for for the retail chain reached $189.5 million for the month of December 2014. Last year sales were at $175.6 million for the final month of the year.

Total sales were up 4.2 percent for the 48-week period ending Jan. 3. The stores saw sales increase from $1.20 billion a year ago to $1.25 billion.

Stein Mart is based in Jacksonville and now operates 270 stores. 6 new stores have opened since last year, including a Delray Beach location which opened in December.

The chain was also voted the best department store chain by a recent USA Today poll.
